In this step you define item categories for the allocation table.
The item category controls the logistics process between the procurement of a material and the goods receipt in a plant.
The item category determines the default parameters for
- Purchase orders
- Stock transfers
- Delivery
- Supply source determination
- Scheduling
- How allocation table items are grouped together in follow-on documents
Standard settings
The following settings are available as standard for item categories:

B Third-party order (NB - standard PO)
C PO via DC (UB - stock transfer order)
D PO via DC (LO - delivery)
E PO via DC (NB - cross company code)
F Use warehouse stock (UB - stock transfer order)
G Use warehouse stock (LO - delivery)
H Use warehouse stock (NB - cross company code)
I Third party/PO via DC (UB)
J Third party/PO via DC (LO)
K Third party/PO via DC (NB - cross company code)
