Use

Objects that can be used as entry objects for the interface to Web-Based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) are given a unique number (external ID).

The following entry objects are available:

  • Project structure: Project definition, phase, checklist, checklist item, task
  • Collaboration structure: Collaboration, work area, access folder, folder

In this activity, you define the number range interval from which these numbers are assigned internally.

Note

This number is part of the URL.

  • Since some WebDAV applications can no longer process very long URLs, try to make this number as short as possible.
  • These numbers appear in the name of an object and can be visible to the user depending on which WebDAV application he or she is using. Therefore, make sure that you specify conventions for a standardized length of number.

Requirements

Standard settings

The standard system contains the number range object 01 (IDs for PPM Objects; Project Portfolio Management).

Automatic Assignment of Number Range Interval

If you do not create a corresponding number range interval, the system creates a number range interval from 100001 to 999999999999.
This automatic setting makes sense if you are planning to work with approximately 100000 to 900000 entry objects in the system. These objects are given a six digit number. If 900000 is exceeded, the system assigns a seven digit number.

Activities

Enter the number range object 01 and the start value (From Number) and end value (To Number). Do not set the indicator for external number assignment.

Example

If you know that you will need 1000 to 9000 entry objects long-term, set the number range interval from 1000 to 999999999999.
