This section allows you to define wage type characteristics. These characteristics refer to entry of wage types, and not the reaction of wage types in Payroll.

Example

You can define the following characteristics:

  • The maximum wage type amount is $1000.00, the minimum $10.00.
  • The maximum wage type number is 100, the minimum 1.
  • The wage type amount may not be included in the totals line of basic pay.
  • You must enter a wage type amount.
  • Only the number for one wage type should be entered.
  • A unit of time/measurement should be defaulated for the number.
  • A wage type should be valuated indirectly.

Requirements

You have set up your wage type catalog and defined pay scales in a previous step.

You have defined your wage type catalog and have familiarized yourself with your wage types characteristics.

Standard settings

The standard SAP System contains several model wage types which you copied to your wage type area. Your wage types have inherited the characteristics of the model wage types.

Recommendation

If you intend to use Payroll, familiarize yourself with its functionality. You may be setting up wage types that are automatically generated there.

Activities

  1. Adapt wage types to suit your specific requirements.
    1. Define the country grouping for the wage type(s) you want to process.
    2. Position the cursor on the chosen wage type and choose Goto Detail.
    3. Define the validity period for the entry.
    4. If appropriate, indicate the wage type as a deduction wage type.
    5. Define the minimum and maximum amount of the wage type.
    6. If you want to process a wage type for the Basic Pay infotype (0008), specify whether the wage type amount should be included in the basic pay total.
    7. Define the unit of time/measurement and the minimum and maximum default number.
    8. Define the input combination for number and amount.
    9. If required, set up indirect valuation and define the characteristics. Indirect valuation is possible for the following infotypes:
      10. Basic Pay (0008)
      Recurring Payments/Deductions (0014)
      Additional Payments (0015)
      Standard Wage Maintenance (0052)
    10. If you intend to use Time Management, specify whether the wage type is a bonus wage type or basic hourly wage type.
    11. Choose Save table view.
  2. Delete any unnecessary wage types.

Further notes

Define only those wage types which are to be entered in infotypes; wage types which are generated during the payroll run do not need to be defined.
