In this work step you define the unit profile for the conversion of units of measure.
Conversion functions are activated when data is processed for transfer to Microsoft Office applications. The conversion is done according to the unit profiles and their rules. In this way you can display the characteristic values in a different unit measure in the Microsoft Office application.
On the detail screen for the unit profile you can assign a unit of measure.
You can enter the following as a unit of measure for a characteristic value in the SAP System:
- Unit of measure
- Dimension
- Characteristic
Dimension or characteristic are indicrect ways to set the unit of measure. Regardless of the unit of measure the value is saved as the data will be converted when transferred to the Microsoft Office application.
The conversion of units of measure is done in the following order of priority:
- Characteristic
- Dimension
- Unit of measure
Example
You process projects for different makrets. In this case it is necessary that the data is displayed in the units that were agreed upon in the contract. For example, length measurements must be in inches. In order to do this you can maintain a unit profile for each project and control the conversion.
The following example illustrates how conversion rules are processed in order of priority.
The rules opf the profile are as follows:
- Characteristic: Outer diameter of the boiler's pipes
Target unit: inch
- Dimension: Diameter
Target unit: foot
- Unit: in
Target unit: foot
The value of the outer diameter of the boiler's pipes is converted into inches for the transfer into the Microsoft Office application. The conversion for dimension and and unit is not executed.
All other characteristic values for dimension Diameter are converted into feet for the transfer into the Microsoft Office application regardless of the value inch or unit of measure stored.
All other characteristic values that are stored in inches in the SAP System are converted to feet.
