You use this customizing activity to specify bar code types. You need to specify a bar code type for an automatic check.
Example
Requirements
Standard settings
The following bar code types are supplied as standard:
- CODE_2_5_I (2/5-Interleaved)
This is a purely numerical bar code that is widely used in industrial applications, and consists of an even number of digits.
- EAN 13
This is a bar code comprising 13 digits: The first two characters are country codes, the following 10 characters encode dates, followed by a check sum. This type of bar code is often used in retail.
- EAN 8
This is a shortened version of the EAN 13 bar code. This bar code contains a two-digit country code, five date characters and one character for the check sum.
- UPC A
This type of bar code is often used when selling retail products. The manufacturer and product specifications are encoded in the bar code, enabling cash register systems to immediately trace the current price of the product. In the USA, the UPC A bar code and the assignment of the manufacturer ID are controlled by the Uniform Code Council.
- UPC E
This is an altered UPC A bar code based on the number system 0. By omitting the zeros, this bar code only takes up limited space, therefore enabling labeling of very small products.
For the five bar code types supplied, an automatic check is offered for checking using a check function module. A uniform 'check sum' check routine is implemented. This only relates to the check digits, and not to the type.
Recommendation
Activities
You can change the bar code types supplied, and add new ones. Check with your storage system supplier which bar code types are supported by the scan software.
If you maintain a check function module for the newly entered bar code type, note that the check function module must have the same interface as the check function module supplied.
For technical information, see the ArchiveLink documentation in the SAP Library, under SAP Web Aplication Server -> Basis Services -> ArchiveLink -> Information for Developers -> Storing Incoming Documents with Bar Codes.
