In this step you define results analysis versions.
All results analysis data (work in process in the Product Cost by Period component, and work in process or reserves for unrealized costs in the Product Cost by Order component) calculated in results analysis is updated on the order with reference to the results analysis version. This enables you to calculate work in process on the basis of multiple results analysis versions simultaneously. This means that you can use different results analysis versions to do the following:
- Define different methods of WIP calculation
You can create results analysis versions along with operational valuation that are based an "internal" results analysis version created for internal purposes, rather than on mutiple valuation. This means that you can use different results analysis versions to:
- Define different methods of WIP calculation
- Define different amounts of work in process to be capitalized
If you are operating in different countries, you can define different results analysis versions to take into account the different legal requirements in each country.
- Calculate work in process at actual costs in up to three valuation views in the Product Cost by Order component
If you are using transfer prices, you can calculate the results analysis data in the following valuation views:
- Legal view
- Group view
- Profit center view
In the Product Cost by Period component, the work in process at target costs is always calculated in the operational valuation view.
Simplified Control
In simplified control, the results analysis version shows you the following:
- Which valuation view the results analysis data was updated in (such as Legal Valuation)
If you are not using transfer prices, the results analysis version is always carried in the operational valuation view.
Results analysis versions of multiple valuation views are always actual results analysis versions. Results analysis versions of multiple valuation views refer to the results analysis version of the operational valuation view.
- Whether the version is relevant to settlement
The version relevant to settlement is the results analysis version of operational valuation view and the results analysis versions of multiple valuation views referring to that version.
- Whether the data is transferred to Financial Accounting
You can transfer the results analysis versions of multiple valuation views to Financial Accounting.
If Profit Center Accounting is active, an additional posting can be made in Profit Center Accounting for the work in process on the basis of this settlement to Financial Accounting if a profit center is entered in the order.
Extended Control
Extended control allows you to choose whether you want to do the following:
- Calculate and show the creation and usage of the work in process or reserves for unrealized costs separately
- Generate a line item for each posting
- Allow transfer of legacy data
- Allow deletion of the results analysis data calculated with a results analysis version
- Assign the cost elements to different line IDs depending on the results analysis key
If you want to define different rules for the capitalization of the work in process for each results analysis key, you should set the indicator Assignment of results analysis keys in the results analysis version.
- Update the results analysis data under separate results analysis cost elements for different results analysis keys
If you are using more than one results analysis method in parallel (such as WIP calculation in the Product Cost by Order component and revenue-based results analysis in the Product Cost by Sales Order component, you should define the update rules separately for each results analysis key. This allows you to classify a given line ID in different ways.
The setting in the standard system is that the results analysis data are updated under different results analysis cost elements depending different on the results analysis key. If you are only using one method, you can reset the indicator Update of results analysis keys in the results analysis version. The update rule is then valid for all results analysis keys.
- Calculate the work in process for dependent manufacturing orders in sales-order-related production with a nonvaluated sales order stock or in engineer-to-order environments with a nonvaluated project stock (See also Calculate WIP for Manufacturing Orders in Sales-Order-Related Production; Calculate WIP for Manufacturing Orders in Engineer-To-Order).
Results Analysis Cost Elements
You can group the results analysis cost elements of WIP calculation under a Technical Results Analysis Cost Element. This cost element is used by the system internally.
Requirements
You must first process the following menu options:
- Implementation Guide for Controlling General
- Maintain versions
- You maintain one version in the General version maintenance and in the Settings in the Controlling area and indicate this version as the one relevant for WIP calculation.
- Implementation Guide for Cost Center Accounting
- Implementation Guide for Cost and Revenue Element Accounting
- Implementation Guide for Product Cost Controlling
Standard Settings
The standard system contains predefined results analysis versions. To be able to use them in your production system and calculate work in process, you must already have done the following:
- Created or generated cost elements for the results analysis data in your controlling area
The data calculation in WIP calcualtion is updated on the orders under results analysis cost elements.
- Assigned the cost elements that are in your cost element index to the standard line IDs
Line IDs control the capitalization of work in process.
Activities
Check the results analysis versions supplied in the standard system.
If appropriate, define new results analysis versions as follows:
- Check the general versions to see which versions are intended for the calculation of work in process. Create new versions if necessary.
- Create the cost elements for all relevant results analysis data.
Note that the results analysis cost elements are secondary cost elements of cost element category 31.
- Enter the following data for the new results analysis version:
- Controlling area
- Numerical key
- Text
- Technical results analysis cost element
- Specify whether you want to transfer the results analysis data to Financial Accounting.
