Use
If you want to carry out product data distribution with new object types, then you must ensure that the configuration management (CM) object types are transformed into UPS object types.
The system transfers the key fields for the CM object types into the dependent data fields of the UPS object type.
Note
You should not change the settings delivered by SAP. Instead, copy them under a new name in the customer namespace, and change them only then.
You need the following data for the baseline:
- Namespace in which the transformation is to take place
- CM object type that is to be transformed into a UPS object type
- Description for the new object type
- Counter with which you can determine a sequence of objects, if multiple CM object types are grouped under the same key.
You need the following data for the UPS:
- UPS object type into which the CM object type key fields are to be transfered
- Description of the UPS object type
- Function module for date generation
If you add an object type that is not known in CM, but which is suitable for change statuses, then you can create a virtual date (necessary for distribution with UPS) with a function module.
- Generation function module
If different objects in the baseline are referenced with the same object type, then the generation function module controls the transformation of the CM object type into the UPS object type.
- Indicator Exclude Object Type
You can filter out object types from the UPS that are intended for CM and the baseline.
- Structure name of the baseline structure
Requirements
You have made the Customizing settings for the UPS:
- Execute Central Settings for Distribution
- Define Object Types
- Define Packet Types
- ALE Distribution Unit: Setup
Standard settings
SAP delivers settings in the SAP namespace for all distributable object types.
Activities
If you want to use new object types in product data distribution, proceed as follows:
- Choose New Entries.
- Maintain the data for the CM object type, as well as for the UPS object type.
- Save your entries.
