A costing variant enables you to combine all the control parameters for costing.
The costing variant connects the application to Customizing, in that all cost estimates are created and saved with reference to a costing variant.
The costing variant enables you to determine how a cost estimate is created. For example, it controls how the quantity structure or value structure is structured.
A costing variant for production lots contains the following parameters:
Note
Although it is technically possible for different costing variants to have the same costing type and valuation variant, this should be avoided to prevent data from being overwritten.
This is because the key structure for the costing results in the database is based on the costing type and the valuation variant, and not on the costing variant.
Example
Requirements
Standard settings
The costing variants in the standard system for SEIBAN cost estimates are PPC5 and PPC6.
Recommendation
Activities
Establish whether the costing variants in the standard system meet your requirements.
To create a new costing variant for production lot costing, proceed as follows:
- Enter an alphanumeric key and a name for the costing variant.
- Assign the following parameters to the costing variant:
- Costing type
- Valuation variant
- Date control
- Quantity structure determination
- Specify the following:
- How system messages for the cost estimate should be issued (error management)
- Whether the lot size of the highest assembly should be used as the basis for the cost estimate of the material components situated beneath it
- Specify the following:
- Which parameters are proposed on saving the cost estimate
- Enter a reference variant if necessary.
Further notes
You can find additional information about SEIBAN and SEIBAN costing (production lot costing) in the SAP Library in the Production Lot Planning and Product Cost Planning sections.
