In this step, you set up an RFC destination for communication between the SAP system and the application server (in the following, the RFCCOM server) that is to create the Excel sheets.

Prerequisites

You have to have installed program RFCCOM on the RFCCOM server and set it up.

Procedure

If, in your company, the RFC destinations are set up centrally, you should contact this central department and have the necessary RFC destinations set up.

If you want to set up the RFC destination, you can access RFC interface setup directly via Display and maintain RFC destinations.

The following procedure describes the necessary steps for setting up the RFC destination after you have accessed the 'Display and maintenance of RFC destinations' screen.

  1. Choose the menu option 'TCP-IP connections'.
  2. Choose the 'Create' function.
  3. Enter any name in the 'RFC destination' field (for example, RFCCOM_TRV).
  4. Enter the value 'T' (for TCP-IP) as connection type and a name.
  5. Confirm your entries by pressing 'Return'.
  6. In the following screen, choose the 'Registration' function.
  7. Enter the following in the 'Program ID' field: RFCCOM.<Server-IP-Address>, replacing the variable <Server-IP-Address> with the IP address of the RFCCOM server.
  8. Save your entries.
  9. Choose 'Destination' -> 'Gateway options'.
  10. In the dialog screen, enter the gateway host and gateway service used by your SAP system.

    Note

    If you use a message server in your SAP setup, it is usually also the gateway host. Use the name of the gateway host instead of the IP address (for example, 'gateway.mydomain.com' instead of '123.123.123.123').

    The gateway service is usually made up of the fixed sequence 'sapgw' and the two-place system number of the SAP system.

  11. Choose the 'OK' function.
  12. Save the RFC destination.
  13. To test the connection, choose 'Test connection'.

    Note

    If errors occur during testing, you have to check both the RFC destination settings and the RFCCOM program settings on the RFCCOM server. You should above all check to see if program RFCCOM is connected with the gateway.

Result

You have set up a TCP-IP connection to the RFCCOM Server and tested it successfully. This TCP-IP connection can now be used to send OLE calls from the SAP system to a Windows computer.
