Use

In this IMG activity, you define doors, being those locations to where goods either arrive at the warehouse or from where they leave it. Doors are located between the warehouse and the yard.

When defining doors, you can do the following:

  • Assign a staging area to each door (optional)
  • Assign goods receipt and/or goods issue functionality to each door. This determines whether a particular door can be scheduled for, or be the destination of a yard activity for, a vehicle assigned to an inbound/outbound document (mandatory).
If you do not assign goods receipt and/or goods issue functionality to a door, the door cannot be used.
  • Define the physical location type of the door. This location type can subsequently be used to determine which vehicle type groups (and in which combinations and quantities) can be located at the door at the same time (optional).
  • Assign a Global Location Number (GLN) to the door (optional)
  • Assign the door to a yard location group (optional)

Example

Requirements

You have defined the following:

Standard settings

Recommendation

If you have not yet defined doors in Customizing for Logistics Execution -> Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Define Doors, define the doors in the current IMG activity only since it contains additional fields. Otherwise, the previously defined doors will appear in this IMG activity table and you will have to make the additional settings (such as location type and GLN).

Activities

Define each door of your warehouse:

  1. Enter the warehouse number.
  2. Enter a three-digit/character identifier for the door.
  3. If you have already defined staging areas in Customizing for Logistics Execution -> Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Define Material Staging Areas, you can assign a staging area to the door. Otherwise, first define staging areas in IMG activity Define Staging Areas and then assign one to the door in this IMG activity.
  4. If you want to enable the door to be scheduled for vehicles assigned to outbound documents, or enable it to be the destination of a yard activity for an outbound vehicle, select GI ind.
  5. If you want to enable the door to be scheduled for vehicles assigned to inbound documents, or enable it to be the destination of a yard activity for an inbound vehicle, select GR ind.
  6. If you want the capacity of the door to be limited in terms of quantities of vehicle type groups, choose the door's location type. You can subsequently define a relationship between the location type and vehicle type groups in IMG activity Define Location Type - Vehicle Type Group Relationships.
  7. Enter the GLN, if any, of the door.
  8. If you want to assign the door to a yard location group:
    1. Ensure that you have defined door location groups in IMG activity Define Yard Location Groups.
    2. Return to this activity and enter the location group in the Loc. Group field.

Further notes

In this activity, you can assign one staging area to more than one door.

In IMG activity Define Staging Areas, you can assign one door to more than one staging area.
