You only have to perform this activity if you want to define further formats that you want to check in as info objects of class "multimedia object" in addition to the file formats that are already entered.
Example
You want to check in graphics as info objects in bitmap format (*.BMP) in order to be able to display them later from other info objects with hyperlinks or structure links.
