Use
In this step you can set or check the cross-transactional buffering of BOMs.
In the case of frequent BOM explosions with various transaction calls, or calls from external systems, performance is significantly better if you read the BOMs from the buffer (shared buffer) rather than from the database.
According to the default settings, the BOMs in the shared buffer are not buffered. The 'buffering' indicator is blank.
If you want to use cross-transactional buffering of the BOMs, you must set the 'buffering' indicator.
Note that you cannot switch this indicator off and then switch it back on again shortly afterwards, since the BOMs in the buffer may no longer be up to date without the system noticing. This means that the wrong components are chosen for your order.
You can clean up old buffered BOMs from the shared buffer using the report RMMDBOM1.
Requirements
We recommend switching on cross-transactional buffering of BOMs in the shared buffer for the following applications:
- Sales order planning
- Assembly processing
- Frequent creation of planned orders with the same BOM
- Frequent single-item planning with the same BOM
- BOM explosion for planned orders from external systems (APO or via BAPI)
In these cases, buffering significantly improves perfomance during BOM explosions.
