In this IMG activity, you convert the existing planning file entry at plant level to MRP area level by using the report RMDBVM00 in planning file entries. The conversion report causes the system to create a new planning file. In addition, the system creates MRP area for the existing plants. These MRP areas do not, however, affect the way material requirements planning is carried out. The number for plant MRP areas is identical to the plant number and therefore consists of four digits.
The conversion of the current planning file (table MDVM) to the new planning file (table DBVM) is a prerequisite for carrying out material requirements planning with MRP areas.
For individual customer planning file entries, the tables KDVM and KDVL are additionally converted to the tables KBVM and KBVL.
The conversion is also useful if you do not work with MRP areas but have to plan for many plants, since the system is faster with the new planning file when carrying out a planning run.

Additional hints
The planning file entry is converted by using a report which you can start in this IMG activity. The report can only be called up once for each client. The following functions are carried out with the report:
- The system checks whether plant MRP areas already exist for all plants. If this is not the case, a plant MRP area will automatically be created for each plant. The plant MRP area matches the plant completely. The number of the plant MRP area is the same as the plant number. The assignment of plant to plant MRP area is stored in an internal table.
- The existing planning file entries are copied from the current planning file into the new planning file. The conversion of the plant to the new planning file is carried out using the previously stored assignment of plant to plant MRP area.
- The current planning file (used up to now) is deleted after it has been copied into the new planning file.
- At client level in an internal table, the indicator "Planning file entries for MRP area converted" is set.
- This indicator causes material requirements planning to be carried out with planning file entries at MRP area level.
