In this workstep, define a fixed status sequence.

Using the status sequence, you can indicate that certain statuses are not allowed, but others are mandatory.

You define for each status whether it is:

  • a mandatory status
  • a recommended status
  • an optional status
  • or a prohibited status

The next status can be specified with the kanban signal:

  • If you use the bar code to change the status, the next status can be included in the bar code information.
The next status can also be selected in the input screen for the manual kanban signal or the kanban signal via bar code. If no "next status" has been selected and if this information is not included in the bar code, the system determines the next status automatically using the data recorded in the status sequence. If the "next status" field has been selected, and no status sequence has been defined, the system uses the standard status sequence with the two mandatory statuses, "full" and "empty".
  • In the kanban board, the next status is always set by selecting the corresponding function.

Depending on whether the next status is specified or not, the status sequence has the following effect:

  • If the appropriate "next status" is given with the kanban signal, the system checks to see whether a status that is not allowed is to be set or whether a mandatory status has been missed out in the status sequence, "wait", "in process", "in transit", "in use".
  • If the appropriate "next status" is not given with the kanban signal, the system determines the next status automatically using the status sequence. Here, the system will set the next recommended or mandatory status in the status sequence; "wait", "empty", "in process", "in transit", "full, "in use".

Note

It is possible to block the status change "wait" for the user. However, the system will continue to set this status, even if it is set to "not allowed" in the status sequence (for example, if a new container has been introduced to the control cycle).

You can also define the following information for each status change:

  • goods receipt per status change
  • kanban print per status change
  • user exit for user-defined procedures

If you want to define that the activities carried out when the status changes are to differ from the standard, you must define a status sequence and select the field, Activities for this sequence. In workstep "Define activities for status change", you can then define your own activities.

Warning

If you have selected the indicator Activities, the "goods receipt" and "kanban print" are only carried out for status changes which were assigned these activities during the work step, "Define activities for status change".

Example

If, for example, you defined the status change,

"wait"    optional status

"empty"    mandatory status

"in process"    optional status

"in transit"    mandatory status

"full"    mandatory status

"in use"    recommended status
this has the following effect:

If the kanban is set to the status, "empty", you can set the status manually to either "in process" or to "in transit". The status "full" cannot be selected as the next status as this would skip the mandatory status, "in transit".
If the next status is set automatically by the system, it skips the optional satus, "in process" and sets the mandatory status, "in transit".

If the kanban is set to the status "full", you can manually set the status to "in use", "wait", or "empty".
If the next status is set automatically by the system, it will set the next recommended status, "in use".

Requirements

Standard settings

Recommendation

You require no status sequence if you use the standard Kanban procedures.

Activities

If necessary, maintain the status sequences.
