The inventory postings in the Inventory Management System (MM-IM) are mapped using movement types. Together with other indicators, the movement type used in a goods movement in the MM-IM application component refers to a reference movement type in the Warehouse Management System (MM-WM). This reference movement type provides the SAP System with the following information:
- Movement type for the Warehouse Management System (WMS)
- Stock category of the quants that are to be created
- Indicator for generating the transfer requirement and the posting change notices
In order to determine a WM movement type, the SAP system uses the following information:
- Warehouse number
- Reference movement type from the Warehouse Management System
- Special stock indicators for WM / Warehouse Management
- Movement indicator
- Special stock indicator
- Special movement indicator for WM Warehouse Management
The entry *** in the column WhN (warehouse number) means that the reference movement type applies to all warehouse numbers. The WM movement type can be found in the MTy (movement type) column.
The system uses this WM movement type to call up the table which contains the definition of the movement type that determines the process flow of the goods movement in the Warehouse Management System.
Requirements
The MM-IM application component (Inventory Management) is installed.
Standard settings
All relevant movement types are preset in the SAP standard system.
Recommendation
SAP recommends that you accept the settings defined in the standard system. In this case, no action is required on your part.
Activities
- Check the WM reference movement types that correspond to the IM movement types, by doing the following:
- Choose the view Updating Control / WMS Movement Types.
- Select movement types.
- Branch to the detail view of the movement types.
You can find the reference movement types in the field group Updating control. If the movement type 999 is involved, the movement in MM-IM has no effect on the Warehouse Management System.
- If you have different process flows for different warehouse numbers (e.g. transfer requirement creation or direct transfer order selection) create separate WM movement types for each warehouse number.
