You use this IMG activity to first define the vehicle external status, that you need for your business processes.
You then assign a VMS action to external status and organization channel combinations.
If the vehicle manufacturer sends an IDoc with current production data, the system finds an action via the external status in the IDoc and the organization channel. Depending on how this is set, the action is either executed automatically by the system straight away or it is executed once triggered manually in the status monitor. As soon as this action has been executed, the vehicle is set to the internal status defined in the corresponding actions matrix.
Note:
You either copy the external status key directly from the manufacturer if you know it, or you create your own key and convert the manufacturer names into this own key, in the mapping that takes place between the manufacturer's data file and the IDoc.
Example
You (customer Y) receive a purchase order acceptance confirmation from manufacturer X, that contains a small configuration change (example: the color of the vehicle different from that ordered). The external status reads "purchase order confirmed with change". You want to accept the configuration change and you therefore want to change the internal order accordingly. Because of this you assign action "change order" to external status "purchase order confirmed with change", and organization channel XY. Once the system has executed this action, the vehicle receives internal status "purchase order confirmed".
