In this IMG activity you define the vehicle search areas that you require for your business processes and, where necessary, assign a default sharing level to them.
You can analyze vehicle search areas and sharing levels by defining rules for the vehicle search for these parameters in Category Management. These rules can help you to set up a uniform SD policy in your system.
In the standard system delivery, you can assign exactly one plant and one default sharing level to each vehicle search area. These values are then copied automatically to the vehicle data when a vehicle is created. If you desire a different assignment when you create a vehicle, choose one of the following options:
- Create your vehicles using transaction VELO and, at the same time, assign a vehicle search area and sharing level to them using a BAdI (VLC_EXECUTE_ACTION, method DATA_CHANGES_BEFORE_ACTION).
- Create your vehicles using a BAPI (BAPI_VEHICLE_CREATE) and, at the same time, assign a vehicle search area and a sharing level to the vehicles via this BAPI.
- Create your vehicles using a BAPI (see above) and at the same time assign a vehicle search area and sharing level to these vehicles using a BAdI.
You can change the vehicle search area and sharing level for a vehicle in retrospect using action SMOD Change Vehicle.
