This IMG activity is the central IMG activity for the VMS function.

You first define the vehicle action controls that you need for your business processes.

You also create an action grid (or matrix) for each action control. You define which current vehicle status is permitted for which action and the new status that the action should give the vehicle. This is how you establish your internal business process.

Finally you create an entry for each action control combination and action with specifications for availability status, Delivery schedule (days remainining until delivery, start date for scheduling) and determination of the physical vehicle location.

For actions, that are executed more than once in the process and then have a different status as a consequence, you can also define these specifications through a combination of action control, action and status. Example: the action goods receipt can either be executed early in the proces or only late after the rework. The time until vehicle delivery is longer or shorter depending on when this is executed.

Example

Requirements

You must have defined all the actions, vehicle status, availability status, and vehicle locations that you need for your business processes in the previous IMG activities.

Recommendation

Activities

  • Create an entry for each action control required. To do this enter a four character short name and a description. Use a naming convention to differentiate between the primary and secondary action controls.
  • Define an action grid for each action control with action and status sequences. Depending on whether you have defined an action as a primary and /or secondary action, you must put them into a primary and/ or secondary grid.
    • Note for check entries:
If the grid should only be checked to see whether a certain status has been reached, but no new status should be set, enter the value of the old status as the new status value, and select check entry field. This means that status value and status time remain unaltered.
    • Note for interlinking actions:
an intermediate status is set during interlinking action processing via each elementary action. Therefore put each elementary action that is part of an interlinking action in the primary and/or secondary grid as an individual entry. Also put each interlinking action in the primary and/or secondary grid as an individual entry. This entry is relevant in terms of the old vehicle status check but is not relevant in terms of setting a new status.
  • Make specifications for availability, delivery scheduling, and vehicle location for every action control and action combination (or if necessary, for each combination of action control, action, and status)
    • Note:
If an action is in both a primary and secondary grid, and there are entries for both grids, these entries must be identical. If they are not, the system will not be able to process them.
