Use

In this Customizing activity, you create and maintain business areas.

When you define a process, you logically group it with other processes according to a business area. The business area can then be used in rules and Business Add-Ins (BAdIs).

Requirements

Standard settings

SAP delivers business areas for the delivered processes.

If you create rules or code in BAdIs that must be executed for your process definition, you should create your own business area in the customer namespace (Z*), and assign it to the process definiton. This way, your rules and your code will be executed for any process definition that you assign the business area to.

Business areas are delivered in a control table where SAP and customers have separate key areas ("E-table").

Activities

Check the existing business areas and note which business areas are available. Check if you plan to create code for the existing business areas and the process definitions they are assigned to.

Check if you plan to create new process definitions that require extensive new code. If so, create a business area.

Example

You plan to create a new process definition that will require extensive new code. The code must only be executed for this new process. You create the new business area "ZCUS1" in this table and then assign the business area to the process definition or definitions. The code is executed for any process definition that the business area is assigned to.
