In this step, you define the possible delivery types. These can be used equally for titles and ad pre-prints.

Together with the delivery type, you determine the type of logistical processing possible for a delivery (home delivery, pickup, postal shipping etc.). The usage of the delivery type is determined according to this criterion. It is particularly important to specify whether a delivery type is used for order processing and/or for planning.

There are three possible assignments of delivery types to order processing or planning:

  • Order and logistical delivery type

The delivery type is available both for order management and for logistics processing.

  • Order delivery type

The delivery type is only for use in order management. The order delivery type must reference a logistical delivery type for order processing.

The logistical delivery type can be determined using a customer exit. It can be changed manually in the individual deliveries.

  • Logistical delivery type

The delivery type is only for logistics processing (distribution) and cannot be used in order management. The logistical delivery type is usually used as a reference for order delivery types. The logistical delivery type can be entered manually during maintenance of deliveries.

The delivery viability dependencies are used to determine the degree of detail with which delivery viability sets are maintained for the specified delivery type. The system restricts the possible entries according to the type of logistical processing. For example, the delivery viability set for delivery types classified as 'home delivery' cannot be dependent on a geographical unit since home delivery is performed based on carrier routes.

Recommendation

Before defining delivery types, you should determine how detailed the delivery viability sets are to be and to what extent order management is to be controlled by delivery types.

If, for example, you wanted to distinguish between delivery types in order processing by individual postal package types, you can create a delivery type for each postal package type as an order and logistical delivery type. However, you can also define an order delivery type 'Domestic post' that references the logistical delivery type 'Postal distribution unit'. If the order delivery type is also processed using other logistical delivery types in certain cases, you must change these manually or using a corresponding user exit.

Activities

  1. Ascertain which delivery types you require for order processing and planning.
  2. Modify the texts and details for the existing delivery types to meet your company's requirements.
  3. To create new delivery types, please proceed as follows:
    1. Specify the type of logistical processing for which the delivery type is intended (home delivery, pickup etc.).
    2. Specify the usage of the delivery type. Please note that a delivery type only intended for order management must reference a logistical delivery type (see explanation above).
    3. Select the indicator for shipping control (planning relevance of item and ship-to party). If you create a delivery type for direct delivery, the indicator denoting that an unloading point must be specified is selected automatically.
    4. Maintain the dependencies of the delivery viability set.
    5. If you create a delivery type for postal shipping, please maintain the postal package type assignment.
