In some cases, shipping documents require very large characters that are not available in the standard SAP system.

The following uses the example of an HP printer to explain how to set up additional font sizes required for shipping documents.

To set up font sizes in accordance with the type of device, please proceed as follows:

  1. Copy the device type for which the modification is to be made.
    • Choose Tools -> Administration,
      • Spool -> Spool administration
      and Utilities -> Copy device type.
    • In the field 'Copy device type', specify the template (e.g. HPLJIIID) and in 'to device type' the target (e.g. ZHPLJ3D).
    • Click the Execute function.
  2. Create the new print controls.
    • Access spool administration as described in point 1.
    • Select Print control and click the Change pushbutton.
    • Copy the print controls from the template device type to your new device type (select the template and click the Copy function).
    • Specify the target device type in the dialog box.
    • Edit the print controls of your new device type (select the target device type and click the Edit function):
      • Create entries for the following font sizes for the font 'Times, bold' (example for device type HPLJIIID, printer language PCL5):

The highlighted section defines the font size.

  1. Maintain the system fonts.
    • To do this, choose Spool -> Font maintenance on the System Administration screen and then click the System fonts function.
    • Define the sizes 180, 240, 360, 480, 600, 720, 900, 011 (011 stands for 110 point) for the font family 'Times', selecting the attribute 'Bold' each time.
  2. Maintain the printer fonts.
    • Choose the Printer fonts function in font maintenance.
    • Define the fonts for 'Times' with the sizes 180, 240, 360, 480, 600, 720, 900, 011 with the attribute 'Bold' for your new device type and assign the appropriate print controls (see step 2).
    • Important: Please note the OSS note 12462.
  3. Create the output device for the new device type.
    • Choose Spool -> Spool administration on the System Administrationscreen.
    • Select Output devices and press ENTER.
    • Change the entry for your HP printer by replacing the old device type (HPLJIIID) with the new one (ZHPLJ3D).

Further notes

To maintain printer settings, choose the menu path Tools -> Administration on the initial screen.
