In this step, you define the condition types for pricing.

Condition types are used in the SAP System to represent pricing elements. Pricing elements are created in condition records. Examples of pricing elements include prices, bonuses, deductions, tax or freight charges. Pricing elements that are the same are grouped together in a condition class.

You specify an access sequence in every condition type. This defines which fields the system checks when performing a search for a valid condition record.

Note

  • In the pricing procedure, you group all condition types that are to be included automatically by the system when performing pricing for a business transaction (see the step Define and assign pricing procedures).

Please note that you can also specify the condition types in the pricing procedure manually.

  • You can change the result of pricing manually in the sales document. You can restrict the options for changing a condition type in this step.

Recommendation

  • If you define your own condition types, the key should begin with the letter Z, since this name range is reserved in the standard system.
  • You are advised not to change the condition types in the standard system.

Activities

  1. Check how many of the standard condition types you can use as they are and whether or not new condition types are necessary.

You might, for example, create a new condition type because you require a calculation rule for a deduction that is not set up for an existing deduction in the standard system.

  2. To create new condition types, please proceed as follows:
    • Copy a similar condition type.
    • Specify an alphanumeric key of up to 4 characters for each condition type.
    • Enter a text description.
    • Enter an access sequence for the condition types. (You need not specify an access sequence for header conditions.)
  3. Maintain the detail screen for the condition type.

If the condition types are very similar, you can assign a reference condition type. You then only need to maintain the condition records for the reference condition type.

You also have the following option:

  • You can define upper and lower limits for the value of a condition at condition type level. This restricts the amounts or scale values in the condition records.
