In this step you determine which condition record fields are to be taken into account when structuring the index. The fields selected are presented as criteria for condition record selection in the task level menu. In addition to the option of searching for condition records using the condition type (e.g. prices, surcharges, discounts) and the organizational data, you can also use the condition index to determine and apply other selection criteria.

Example

The standard version contains two indices which can be used independently of the condition type to select all condition records, e.g. for a particular booking unit (index 290) or for a particular service (index 291).

Note

Please note that the number of indices to be updated affects system performance. You should also bear this in mind when creating and activating indices.

Standard settings

The standard SAP System contains the following indices:

  • Index 290 takes account of the booking unit, the sales organization and the distribution channel when structuring the index.
  • Index 291 takes account of the service, the sales organization and the distribution channel when structuring the index.
  • Index 293 takes account of the sales agent contract and the purchasing organization when structuring the index.
  • Index 294 takes account of the commission key and the purchasing organization when structuring the index.
  • Index 296 takes account of the publication, the basic booking unit and the sales organization when structuring the index.
  • Index 297 takes account of the publication, the combined booking unit and the sales organization when structuring the index.

For reasons of performance, condition types for the condition index are not supplied in an active form in the standard system. If a condition type is to be taken into account for the condition index, it must be activated (Condition type detail screen).

Prerequisites

You should define the overviews for condition maintenance before using condition indices (standard indices and your own indices). Further information about the overviews for condition maintenance is available in "Overviews".

Activities related to using standard indices.

  1. Establish whether the condition indices supplied in the standard system meet your requirements.
  2. Activate every standard index that you want to use.

The indices are supplied in an inactive form, to avoid indices that are not used being updated unnecessarily. Enter one of the requirements for updating the index.

    • Requirement 1: Entries must be made for all index fields
    • Requirement 2: An entry must be made for the first index field
  3. Select every condition type that is to be taken into account when structuring the index in the "Condition index" field on the condition type detail screen. Condition types in the standard system are not selected.
  4. You can change and display standard indices:

Activities related to creating and using your own indices

  1. You can create a condition index by copying and changing an existing index or by proceeding as follows:
  2. Establish whether the list of admissible fields meets your requirements. If you require new fields, you can incorporate these in the field catalog for the condition index.
  3. To create a condition index, you should enter a table between 501 and 999 and select the fields you require from the list of admissible fields.

The selected fields can contain a maximum of 100 characters.

Select the sequence of fields so that the first field in the index is the field which is searched for most often. SAP recommends including the sales organization and the distribution channel.

Generate the condition index. The indices you create will be activated automatically.

  4. Select the condition types that are to be take into account in the condition index in the "Condition index" field on the detail screen for the condition type involved.

Activites related to restructuring secondary indices

You must restructure condition indices in the following circumstances:

  • You have created a new condition index and want to structure it for the existing condition records.
  • You have changed an existing condition index and want to structure it for the current condition records

Please proceed as follows:

  1. Enter a condition index or a range of indices.
  2. Enter the date and time from which the index is to be structured.
