In this step, you maintain the control parameters for archiving objects. The settings you make apply to all clients, so you need only make them once.

Exception: The program variants for the activity 'Start deletion report' are client-dependent. They must be maintained in the same way in each client (see below).

Activities

  1. Select the archiving object you want to maintain and choose Customizing settings.
  2. Maintain the parameters of the archiving object:

  • Logical file name
    Platform-independent logical file name for archive file
  • Size of an archive file
    • in MB
    • maximum number of data objects allowed per file

      If one of these two values is exceeded when data is being written to an archive file, the system automatically creates a new file.

  • Settings for delete program
    In these fields, you maintain the parameters for the deletion program. The deletion program usually deletes the archived data from the database. However, in some cases the deletion is merely logical deletion performed by selecting a deletion indicator. In such cases, physical deletion is not performed until the cleanup takes place.
    • Indicator 'Start automat.'
      If you select this indicator, the program is started automatically after the archive has been written.
    • Commit counter
      This parameter influences the performance of the program.
    • Test run
      Name of program variant for test run. You can use the Variant pushbutton to maintain the variant specified.
      Caution: These variants are client-dependent. The settings you make here only affect the variant in the current client. You must create the same variant for all clients and make the same parameter settings in each.
    • Productive run
      Name of the deletion program variant for the productive run. You can maintain the specified variant using the Variant pushbutton.
      Caution: These variants are client-dependent. The settings you make here only affect the variant in the current client. You must create the same variant for all other clients and make the same parameter settings in each.
  • Connection to archiving system
    If an archiving system is linked via Archive Link, please maintain these settings:
    • Document type
    • Indicator 'Start automat.'
