In this step, you set up the read depth for use when maintaining distribution structures.

Depending on the display type, the following read depths are possible:

  • Structural display: From a higher level to lower levels (downwards)
  • Usage display: From a lower level to higher levels (upwards)

Each level in the structure (for the program, each object) represents an assignment type.

Maintenance of the read depth consists of making the following assignments for each preassigned initial assignment type for a display direction:

  • Target assignment type
  • Explode depth for reading structure

Example

You specify for the structural display that the structure is to be exploded from carrier route level to postal unit level. Explode depth '1' means that only one hierarchy level is displayed.

For the usage display, you specify that the structure is to be exploded from the level of the geographical units to carrier route level. Explode depth '999' means that up to 999 (i.e. any number) hierarchy levels are displayed.

Standard settings

The display directions and their access paths and initial assignment types are predefined in the program. You cannot delete the set entries or create new ones.

It is only possible to change the target assignment type and explode depth, if this is at all necessary.

Recommendation

You are advised to discuss the assignment types with your SAP consultant. Since the assignments are not checked by the system, you should consider whether each is advisable before making it.

Activities

  1. Find out which of the record assignment types you want to assign a structure read depth.
  2. Specify the target assignment type as follows:
    • Specify a lower-level target assignment type for the display direction S (structure).
    • Specify a higher-level target assignment type for the display direction U (usage).
  3. Enter the explode depth for each assignment.

    Explode depth 1 : one hierarchy level

    Explode depth 2 : two hierarchy levels

    ...

    Explode depth 999: Any number of hierarchy levels
