In this step, you create your LIS inbound interface for external data.

Maintenance of the LIS inbound interface is always dependent on an event (business transaction).

Note

Customer-specific events are named "Y" (Y1 - Y0 and YA - YZ) or "Z" (Z1 - Z0 and ZA - ZZ).

Activities

  1. Specify both an event and a short description for this event.

If you ask the system to propose an event, it automatically uses the next event that is available in your name range.

  2. Specify an application that suits the business transaction (event).

If you do not consider any of the other applications suitable, choose application "09" (External data).

  3. Enter the name of your communication structure.

If you use the IDoc interface to transfer the structure, enter the name of the enhancement.

  4. Select the type of your communication structure.
  5. If you use the IDoc interface to transfer the structure, you also need to select the type of transfer.

Here you have the following options:

    • ALE/RFC
    • This involves a synchronous data transfer.
You can find further information in F1 Help for this option.
    • File
    • This involves an asynchronous data transfer.
You can find further information in F1 Help for this option.
    • Without inbound definition
    • This option is for expert use only.
You can find further information in F1 Help for this option.
  6. Confirm by pressing ENTER.
  7. If you have specified an application that does not belong to the SAP basis applications, you need to create a reference to one of the SAP basis applications that is assigned to the application you have specified.

A dialog box appears offering you the application in question. Confirm by pressing ENTER.

  8. If you use the IDoc interface to transfer the structure, the uniqueness of the name and the length of the fields in the segment definition of the enhancement and the communication structure are checked.
  9. Specify a new function group (group of logically related function modules).

You also have the option of asking the system to propose a function group.

  10. Choose a field as a key field for the update log.

To do this, mark the Log field for the field you require.

    Recommendation

If possible, select the document number, or a similar field by which you can identify the data, to be the key field for the update log.

  11. Save your entries.

If your communication structure is an IDoc, you need to specify a logical system when you save.

    The event is generated.

    The function modules are generated.

The LIS inbound interface is created.

Environment -> Display log displays the generation log in which any errors that occurred are listed.
