In this step, you maintain the replacement table for abbreviations and typing errors that might be included in the postal data or have been made when an address was entered. The IDs for word replacements are used as keys in the phonetic search for postal units. This allows you to record IDs for city names that are used frequently, thus saving time entering addresses.
Special characters and 'umlauts' are not allowed in the abbreviations.
Example
The search field for the street may contain spelling variations or errors such as 'Street', 'St.' or 'Str.'. These spellings are replaced with the standard abbreviation 'St'. This abbreviation enables you to find the postal unit in the phonetic search.
To make address entry more efficient, you define the ID C for Chicago and select the indicator Full.
Standard settings
In the standard system, the table contains entries for the country key 'US'. However, these entries do not contain all the replacements that may apply.
Recommendation
The replacements should be maintained in the system before you import the postal data.
You should not make any changes in the table during operation. If you change the table, you must carry out the step Conversion of Search Field in Postal Data immediately afterwards. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that all existing postal units are available for use in address recording.
Activities
- Log on in client 000.
- To create an entry, please proceed as follows:
- Specify the country key.
- Specify the type of phonetic search in the column Ph.search type, for example 'City' or 'Street'.
- Enter the contents of the search field that are to be replaced in the field Search field - long.
- Enter the appropriate identification code for the phonetic search.
- If you want the spelling of a postal unit to correspond to the identification code from the replacement table (for example, 'CLVL' instead of the correct spelling 'Cleveland'), select the indicator FullString.
