In this step, you define the possible ID code areas and number ranges.

Activities

  1. Find out which ID code areas your company requires and the number ranges into which these areas should be subdivided.
  2. To create the required ID code areas, please proceed as follows:
    1. Click New entries in the ID Code Area view.
    2. Specify the ID code type for which an ID code area is to be created.
    3. Specify an alphanumeric key for the ID code area. This key forms the first part of the ID code.
    4. Enter a descriptive text for the ID code area.
  3. To create the ID code number ranges required for an ID code area, please proceed as follows:
    1. Select the desired ID code area in the ID Code Area view and choose the view ID Code Number Range in the dialog structure.
    2. Click New entries.
    3. Specify an alphanumeric key of up to four characters for the number range.
    4. Enter a descriptive text for the number range.
    5. Specify numeric values for the upper and lower limits. The upper and lower limits must be of the same length. The intervals in the number ranges in an ID code area created by these upper and lower limits must not overlap.

Further notes

If certain ID codes can no longer be used for an ID code area and number range, you can enter them in a list of ID codes that can no longer be used. This may be the case, for example, when an ID code is used for a media product for which there is no media product master record in the system.

To enter the ID codes in the list of ID codes that can no longer be used, call transaction SM30 to access table maintenance for table JPTIDCODE. Create an entry in this table for each ID code that can no longer be used and specify the ID code type, ID code, ID code area and ID code number.
