When you implement Industrial Hygiene and Safety, you must first process Customizing for the Basic Data and Tools (EHS-BD) component. Below you will find information about the settings that have particular relevance for Industrial Hygiene and Safety:

  • Specify Environment Parameters

In Industrial Hygiene and Safety, you can control a series of processes using environment parameters. For more information, see the documentation for the IMG activity. Read the information in the section about the environment parameters for Industrial Hygiene and Safety.

  • Manage User Exits

Using user exits you can adapt the standard functions of Industrial Hygiene and Safety according to your requirements. For more information, see the documentation for the IMG activity. Read the information in the section about the user exits for Industrial Hygiene and Safety.

  • Check Identification Types

Check whether the identification type IH (description in Industrial Hygiene and Safety) exists for the identification category NAM and the indicator for language dependency is set. You will require this setting in order to be able to output the descriptions of agents on reports in different languages.

  • Set Up Property Trees

Check whether the EH&S standard property tree exists and whether it contains the value assignment types that you require for Industrial Hygiene and Safety (for example, for entering reference values). If you want to use your own property tree for Industrial Hygiene and Safety, make the required settings.

Important for the use of the component measurement management (EHS-IHS-MEM):

Make sure that the property tree you are using contains the following value assignment types:

    • Molar mass (SAP_EHS_1013_037)
    • Occupational threshold limit values (SAP_EHS_1023_006)
    • Summated value group (SAP_EHS_1023_040)
    • Measurement method (SAP_EHS_1013_060)

These value assignment types are included with the standard system.

  • Specify Source Types and Specify Sources

If you make a risk assessment using standardized criteria, document which publications (for example, laws, regulations, technical rules) your assessment is based on by specifying the source. Extend the settings to include the source types and sources you require.

Note: You can also add sources in a productive system (as current settings).

  • Check and Specify Report Symbols

Check whether all symbols exist that you require to generate industrial hygiene and safety reports. For more information about creating symbols, see

  • Specify Report Symbol Groups

Check whether the entries for the report symbol groups for Industrial Hygiene and Safety exist in the assignment table. The report symbol groups for Industrial Hygiene and Safety have the numbers 10, 11, and 14 through 19. If you use the injury/illness log, you will also need the symbol group Parameter: injury/illness log (report symbol group number 12).

  • Import Sample Templates

The standard shipment of Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) contains templates for forms that you require for Industrial Hygiene and Safety, such as the accident notification layout valid for Germany and an example of a standard operating procedure. If you want to work with these sample templates, import the files into your system.

    Examples of import files:

    • EXPL_SOP.DOC and EXPL_SOP.DAT (standard operating procedure)
    • EXPL_UNF.DOC and EXPL_UNF.DAT (accident notification layout)
