In this step, you define matrix dimension segments. A segment is an attribute of a dimension. For each segment, you can specify a minimum and a maximum value.

Example

For the Appraisal dimension, you could define the following performance criteria in the form of segments: outstanding, good, average and poor. For each segment, you would then enter a lower limit and an upper limit. You could, for the outstanding segment, define a default guideline amount of 500, a minimum amount of 250 and a maximum amount of 750. Likewise, you could define, for the Compa-ratio dimension, the following criteria and specify the relevant upper limit and lower limit: below midpoint, equal to midpoint or above midpoint.

Requirements

You must have performed the activities Define Methods for Matrix Dimensions and Define Matrix Dimensions.

Standard settings

The SAP System is shipped with a set of predefined segments that you can change to meet your company-specific requirements.

Recommendation

Determine which segments are needed for each dimension you want to use.

Activities

  1. Select the relevant compensation area and matrix dimension.
  2. Choose New entries.
  3. Enter a 4-character code and a description for the segment.
  4. Define a range by entering a lower limit and an upper limit. For example, if you have chosen the compa-ratio as a criterion and defined the segments Below midpoint, At midpoint and Above midpoint, you could have, respectively, the following minimum and maximum values: 0,000 - 0,799, 0,800 - 0,999 and 1,000 and 1,200. Note that these values are inclusive, in other words included in the range of the segment.
  5. Save your entries.
  6. Repeat the previously mentioned steps for any further segments.

Further notes

You have now all the key elements needed for creating guideline matrices in the step Define Guideline Matrices.
