In this step, you define guidelines based on multiple criteria.
Example
To perform salary increases and bonus payments, you are likely to use more than one criterion, for example, employee performance appraisal results, length of service and compa-ratio:
- Appraisal results
- Outstanding
- Good
- Average
- Poor
- Length of service
- 0-2 years
- 2-5 years
- 5-10 years
- More than 10 years
- Compa-ratio
- Below midpoint
- Equal to midpoint
- Above midpoint
Based on the above-mentioned criteria, you would have, in the end, 48 possible combinations.
Requirements
You must have performed the following activities:
Standard settings
The SAP System is shipped with a standard matrix that you can change to meet your company-specific requirements.
Recommendation
Determine what type of matrices you need within your organization. Matrices can contain up to three dimensions.
Activities
- Select the relevant compensation area.
- Choose New entries.
- Enter a 4-character code and a description.
- Specify up to three dimensions.
- Depending on the type of compensation, set the indicators to apply the default guideline and check the amount, percentage or number (only relevant for long-term incentives) against a minimum and a maximum limit. Select either an amount, percentage or number (applies to all cells). If you do not, an error message is displayed.
- Select the applicable frequency of payment to be used as the reference frequency of payment .
- Save your entries.
- Repeat the previously mentioned steps for any further matrices.
Further notes
You can also define matrix with no dimensions to specify an explicit default zero value or limit. When you specify a zero value in a normal guideline, no default value or limit apply, whereas the way a zero value is interpreted in a matrix depends whether or not you have set the relevant indicators in this view. If set, a zero value is taken into account.
