Use
In this IMG activity, you assign a number group to a document type and a monthly or quarterly reporting frequency. The system enables you to assign more than one number range - by means of the number group - to the same document type, in order to reflect different reporting frequencies.
During official document number generation, the system automatically updates the Last Date field with the posting date of the last official document number assignment for that combination.

Example
Assume, for example, that you have different contract accounts for the same business partner - and documents from one account (electricity) have to be reported on a monthly basis, while documents from the other account (gas) are subject to quarterly reporting.
You could make the following settings for your company code:
Doc. type Frequency Number group
FA Monthly reporting 000001
FA Quarterly reporting 000002
Then when you post a document to one of the contract accounts, the system reads the tax type assigned to the contract account. The tax type is defined to have either a monthly or quarterly reporting frequency, and this frequency is, in turn, linked to a number group, which is how the system generates the correct official document number.
