Use

In this activity you can activate individual standard applications and industry solutions in your ABAP-based SAP system. These applications and solutions are known as Business Function Sets and Business Functions.

Business Functions are collected in Business Function Sets. You use these function sets to configure your system for an industry solution. If you do not implement any industry solutions, you can use the General Business Function Set to activate other applications.

You can activate only one Business Function Set in each system instance. The General Business Function Set is integrated into the Business Function Sets of the industry solutions, to enable you to use both.

The functions and applications that underlie a Business Function Set and Business Function are not visible in the system until you activate them. These can include menu items and enhancements in existing transactions, activities in the Implementation Guide, and components in the application component hierarchy.

Note that the changes you make in this IMG activity are critical. Once you have activated a Business Function, you can no longer cancel the enhancements it makes in the system. You can select Business Functions and activate the associated changes in the system only if you have the appropriate authorizations.

You may not be able to select any Business Functions if you have installed a particular SAP (for example, SAP ECC, SAP CRM, or SAP SCM). In these cases, the table does not contain any entries.

More Information

  • For technical information about the transaction SFW5, see the SAP NetWeaver Library under the search term Switch Framework.
  • For an overview of information about the Business Functions concept, details about the IMG activity, and test cases for SAP ECC, see the SAP Library under SAP ERP Central Component -> Business Function Sets and Business Functions.

Standard settings

All Business Functions are inactive in the standard shipment. When you upgrade to a newer release, any Business Function Sets and Business Functions you activated in the lower release remain active automatically in the new release.
