Use
Most of the functions of the Document Relationship Browser (DRB) also work with archived objects. However, the corresponding accesses to the archived data are realized in the applications of the object types in question. Therefore, you cannot configure the archive accesses only centrally.
However, in most cases, the underlying basis is the Archive Information System, so that you can make some settings centrally. The application-specific documentation for the DRB explains which settings are required or useful in each case. For the different object types, this documentation usually contains the following:
- A description of the field catalogs that can be used for the connection to the DRB. These are usually standard SAP field catalogs.
- For some object types, there are standard infostructures based on the field catalogs mentioned above, and that, in some cases, have been optimized for the DRB.
- To accelerate the access to the Archive Information System, in some cases a database index of the infostructures is useful. If standard infostructures exist, these usually have suitable database indexes.
Requirements
These activities are only useful if you use data archiving.
Standard settings
SAP cannot deliver active infostructures. Therefore, the DRB functions do not access the archive without additional activities. However, it is possible that archive information structures have already been activated for other functions, and the DRB also accesses these. In such a case, the DRB functions may find data that has already been archived.
Activities
First check whether this Implementation Guide contains a more specific activity for the object types for which you need archive access in the DRB. For all other cases, the procedure is described below. Note however, that the procedure for certain object types may be different to this description, or additional activities may be necessary.
- Determine which infostructures or field catalogs you need for the accesses. For more information, see the application-specific documentation for the DRB.
- If there are standard infostructures, you should use these in preference to your own infostructures as long as they meet your other requirements. In this case, all you have to do is activate the infostructures and fill them with data from the archive.
- You may have to create your own infostructures. Note that you should use the standard field catalogs mentioned in the documentation. To keep the data quantity to a minimum, you should only transfer those fields that you really require to the infostructures.
If you create your own infostructures, you should check whether you need database indexes for these infostructures. For more information, see Definition of Database Indexes for Infostructures - Activate the infostructures and fill them with data from the archive. You have to carry out these activities in the production system, since the activity indicator for the infostructures is not transported.
