Each new, changed, or corrected function is documented by SAP in a release note. From the Customizing view, you should access the release notes using the Release Projects/Views function, so that you only need to edit those release notes pertaining to the application components you have selected. You can display release notes directly from a Release project.

The Release Projects/Views function allows SAP to support you when you carry out Release Customizing. Release projects are IMG subsets and contain the activities that you need to carry out when you upgrade to a new Release of the R/3 System.

At the start of your Release project, you select the application components you want in the Enterprise IMG. You then create the Release project using these components, combined with the "changed" or "corrected" attribute of the appropriate function in the release note.

  • Upgrade Customizing

Check or work through all the activities to ensure the system is still correctly configured for the functions you use. Often you will not need to change system settings, but a change to the functions of an application component may make it necessary to check your settings.

    • Example
In Customizing you can determine whether the "delivery completed" indicator should be automatically seet or not during goods receipt, depending on the tolerance.
A new function was developed for this operation in Release 3.0 (reset the "delivery completed" indicator for reverse postings within the tolerance limit). This made it necessary for the IMG activity to be checked. This activity thus appears in the Project IMG upgrade view.
  • You should document system settings in accordance with the project documentation standards.
  • You should test new, changed, or corrected functions and have them formally accepted by user departments.

Additional information

  • Changed standard settings from SAP are distributed to different clients, depending on the table's delivery class. The four delivery classes concerned are:
    • Delivery class C:
    • Settings are sent to client 000 only, and can be copied into the various other clients.
    • Delivery class G:
    • As for delivery class C in the customer name range. In the SAP name range new entries only are copied to all clients.
    • Delivery class E:
    • As for delivery class C in the customer name range. In the SAP name range all changes are copied to all clients.
    • Delivery class S:
    • All changes are sent to all clients.
  • There are three ways to copy new, changed, or corrected standard settings from client 000:
    • You can transfer the system settings from the release notes.
    • This procedure is often possible if new application components have been delivered.
    • You can use the "empty table" function in IMG Info in the Release IMG. This function indicates which tables do not as yet contain any entries.
    • If you are actually in a Customizing transaction, you can use the client comparison function.
    • A copy function is also available.
