In an explosion profile, you define the parameters for the structure explosion during baselining. Maintain the following views:

  • Global Parameters
    • No BOM Items
    • This indicator determines whether or not a node is displayed for BOM items in the baseline structure.
    • CM Relevance
    • This indicator determines that, during the explosion, objects that are not indicated as CM-relevant are still exploded, although the lower-level structure is not.
    • Explode From
    • Enter a default value for a start date for the structure explosion. This default value is evaluated when you create a baseline, if the indicator Data Distribution is active at the same time.
Change statuses are included in the explosion from this date. Older changes are not included. This means that very old product statuses are not included in distribution to the target system.
    • Application
    • You define an application in which a procedure for automatic alternative assignment for multiple BOMs is stored for different enterprise areas.
    • Compact Storage
    • You determine whether the result of the explosion is to be saved in a compact structure repository, or in an IBase.
    • Data Distribution
    • You determine whether the explosion profile is suitable for distribution.
    • Rel. for Costing
    • Determine whether changes for costing are to be released.
    • Rel. for Plng
    • Determine whether changes in the planning are to be included.
    • Rel. for Prod.
    • Determine whether changes to production are to be included.
    • Rel. for Simul.
    • Determine whether changes to the production simulation are to be included.

Note

SAP recommends you note the following in certain situations:

  • Product data distribution
    • Use compact storage (Compact Storage active) if you anticipate large datasets in the explosion (>10000 objects). Compact storage noticeably increases performance. However, you lose the ability to navigate through the explosion result directly in the structure explosion.
    • Activate the indicator No BOM Items. This avoids unnecessary quantities of data that would need to be sorted before distribution.
    • Select the indicator Data Distribution, or important information will be missing from the explosion result. In data distribution, deletion information for objects must be transferred as well, so that the target system can also recognize and perform the deletion.
    • Set the CM Relevant indicator to Not Relevant for Configuration Management.
    • The aim of product data distribution is to distribute complete product models. In configuration management however, you can flag specific objects as top objects. If you activate the CM Relevant indicator in the explosion profile, the system only distributes the objects that were flagged as CM-Relevant in their master records.
  • CM baseline (documentation of product statuses)
    • Use the IBASE storage; do not select the indicator Compact Storage. You lose the ability to navigate through the explosion result directly in the structure explosion.
    • If necessary select the indicator No BOM Items. You can then display the structure of the BOMs with respect to the source items. Otherwise the multiple usage of a material is only displayed once in a BOM.
    • You should not activate the indicator Data Distribution, as the BOM explosion will then not be carried out according to the key date.
    • Use the indicator CM Relevance to make the explosion evaluate the indicator CM Relevance, which you can maintain in the material master and document master. In this case you must choose Relevant for Configuration Management.
    • Plants

You determine the plants that are to be included in the explosion.

      Note

If the plant list contains a blank entry (4 blank characters in the key), then group BOMs are also exploded.

  • Objects not to be included

You determine that objects with certain object types are not to be exploded further.

    Note

This setting can lead to inconsistencies in the exploded product model. You can, for example, exclude classes from distribution, and still have class items delivered in the exploded BOMs.

  • Node-dependent exclusion of objects

You can closely control the explosion. Here you determine that the explosion of certain object types be canceled depending on the calling dependency, and the dependent dependency.

  • Class types excluded for classification

You determine that classes with specific class types are not to be exploded any further.

Example

Requirements

Standard settings

The explosion profile SAPREPLICA is contained in the delivery.

Recommendation

  • SAP recommends that you use the explosion profile SAPREPLICA as a template for your own explosion profile, and that you copy the standard settings from SAPREPLICA.
  • After you have copied the template profile, adapt the BOM application and the list of plants to meet your requirements.

Activities

To define an explosion profile, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the entry SAPREPLICA and choose Copy.

Change Global Parameters: Selected-Set Details appears.

  2. Overwrite the language-independent key and the description and choose Continue.
  3. If you are asked to specify the objects to be copied, choose Copy All.

Maintain the parameters for the new explosion profile on the Change Global Profile Parameters: Details overview.

  1. Choose the links in the overview tree Plants by double-clicking.
  2. Using New Entry, create new plants that are to be read during the explosion, and delete any entries that you no longer need.
  3. Using New Entry, create Objects that Are Not to Be Included, and delete any entries that you no longer need.
  4. Using New Entry, create in Node-Dependent Exclusion of Objects new exclusive object types, and delete any entries that you no longer need.
  5. Using New Entry, create Class Types to Be Excluded for Classification, and change already existing entries, or delete any entries that you no longer need.
  6. Save your entries.
