Improve Performance of Accesses by Using a Prestep
To improve performance you can optimize access for a condition type by making the system perform a so-called prestep:
The prestep determines whether the system should initially search for condition records using only the document header data. If the search does not find any results, this access will not search through the individual items.
The prestep can only be used for accesses with header and item data.
The higher the average number of items in a document, the greater the benefit of using a prestep.
The lower the likelihood of finding a valid condition record, the more beneficial the use of a prestep (see the following example).
Example
In campaign determination, a campaign is determined on the basis of a combination of customer and material. The condition records you created are based on customer data from the document header and material data from each document item. However, a campaign is only in effect for 5% of your customers, which means that in 95% of all cases, the system is searching in every available item unnecessarily. In this case, a prestep would improve performance.
