In this work step, you determine the rules that control the transformation of data into a specific scenario. You cumulate these rules in a mapping context.
The basis for this transformation scenario are attributes, whose attribute type determines how the attributes of an object (such as material type, material number) can be determined from the data model of the target and source system.
You can use an attribute again in different mapping contexts.

Activities
Carry out the following steps:
- Execute the activity define attribute type.
Check whether the following attribute types are defined:
- STEP_EXP (STEP Export definition) for the export scenario
- STEP_IMP (STEP Import definition) for the import scenario.
The STEP processor requires the following components for the mapping for both attributes:
Object name
Object component 1
Object component 2
Object component 3
Object component 4
If required, imput these entries.
- Execute the activity define attribute.
Input an entry for all the target and source system attributes that are important in the mapping process. Use the attribute types STEP_EXP and STEP_IMP.
- Example 1:
- Attribute: STEPSMATNO (Material number - Source)
- Attribute type: STEP_EXP
- Component: Material number (Source)
- Example 2:
- Attribute: STP-MATNR1 (Material number - Source)
- Attribute typy: STEP_IMP
- Components:
- Material number
- Version number
- Cumulate the rules for a transformation scenario into a mapping context.
- First, maintain the settings for the attribute mapping.
- If the target attribute is generated from exactly one source attribute, set the indicator Mapping with individual source attribute.
- If the target attribute is generated from several source attributes, enter only the target attribute here. Then select the step Generate target attribute from several source attributes . List the attributes from the source system.
- Maintain the settings for the value mapping.
- If the attribute value in the target system is generated directly from the attribute value in the source system, set the indicators Direct value mapping and Default for sequence / priority in the step Maintain attribute mapping.
- Then choose the step Generate target value from the source value. Enter the value of the target attribute. Then enter the value of the source attribute to be replaced. If required, set the indicator regular expression.
- If the attribute value in the target system is generated from several attribute values from the source system, select the step generate target value from several source values. Enter the following data:
- Sequence,
- Priority
- Target attribute
- Source attribute
- Attribute value of the source attribute
- If required, the indicator Regular expression
- Attribute value of the target attribute
- If required, carry out the activity maintain standard values.
You can assign a standard value for a specific attribute. This value is set in the target system, if no unique value for the attribute is defined in the mapping process.
