Use

With CAD desktop you can use a CAD interface to process document structures directly in the CAD system, or from the SAP system.

To be able to work in the CAD desktop that is integrated with a CAD system, you must make the following settings:

Activities

To configure CAD desktop, proceed as follows:

  1. Set Up CAD Systems

    If you want to set up a new CAD system for CAD desktop, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose CAD System in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Enter a CAD system with a description, as well as an abbreviation for the CAD system.
    4. Activate or deactivate the Uses Desktop indicator.
  2. Group Maintenance

    If you want to create a new group for a CAD system, proceed as follows:

    1. Select the CAD system that you want.
    2. Choose Group Maintenance in the dialog structure.
    3. Choose New Entries.
    4. Enter a name for a user group as well as a user or a role (for example, CAD_Desktop).
  3. Determine Applications

    If you want to create new applications, proceed as follows:

    1. Select the group that you want.
    2. Choose Applications in the dialog structure.
    3. Choose New Entries.
    4. Choose one of the suggested actions.
    5. Enter a default value for a workstation application, such as Inventor.
  4. Determine Parameters

    If you want to create new parameters, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose Parameters in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Enter an attribute name and an attribute value.
  5. Assign Material Master Record

    To define the value determination for attributes of a material master record that you want to create, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose Create Material in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Choose an attribute name and a determination type from the suggested values.
    4. Define a determination parameter.
  6. Assign Document Type

    If you want to assign new file extensions for document types, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose Document Type in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Define a file extension.
    4. Choose a determination type from the suggested values.
    5. Choose a determination parameter from the suggested values.
  7. Create Document

    To define the value determination for attributes of a document info record that you want to create, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose Create Document in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Define a new document type.
    4. You can enter the following data for this new document type:
      - Document data
      - Additional data
      - Short text
      - Short text extended
      - Long text
      - Long text extended
    5. Choose a new document type.
    6. Choose the corresponding category in the dialog structure.
    7. Define both a determination type and a determination parameter for each attribute or language.
  8. Assign BOM

    If you want to create a new BOM, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose Create BOM in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Choose one of the suggested attribute classes.
    4. Specify an attribute name of your choice.
    5. Choose one of the suggested determination types.
    6. Choose one of the suggested determination parameters.
  9. CAD Relationship Types

    If you want to define new CAD relationship types, proceed as follows:

    1. Choose CAD Relationship Type in the dialog structure.
    2. Choose New Entries.
    3. Either choose a relationship type from the suggested values, or enter a value of your choice.
  10. Save your entries.
