Use

In this IMG activity, you make central settings for the budget planning. These settings are required for the Definition of the Planning Application.

SAP delivers standard settings, which are used in particular for defining the standard application for the budget planning (Planning Area 4MCBA004).

The following individual configuration options are available:

  • Configuration of planning versions of various types, for example:
    • Type Simulation
    • Type Initial
    • Type Proposal
    • Type Approved

Ensure that the planning versions that are not the "simulation" type have more of a system character. That is, you should not change the standard entries in your Customizing activities, particularly not if you want to use the planning application provided (4MCBA004).

For planning versions that are the "simulation" type (this concerns those versions under which the end users can save their planned data), even when using the planning application provided, you could need to change the standard entries (planning versions PL1, PL2, PL3).

  • Configuration of amount key figures of various types:

Ensure that the amount key figures have more of a system character. That is, you should not change the corresponding standard entries in your Customizing activities, particularly not if you want to use the planning application (4MCBA004) provided.

  • Configuration of budget categories for classifying a budget in relation to the planning of a maintenance task:

The following categories are provided in the standard configuration:

    • Preventive
    • Planned
    • Unplanned

Note that you do not need to change the budget categories in your Customizing activities, particularly not if you want to use the planning application (4MCBA004) provided.

  • Assigning maintenance attributes to budget categories:

This setting serves as the basis for automatically determining the budget category from attribute values, such as the maintenance order type or the maintenance activity type.

  • Configuration of budget uses for classifying a budget in relation to the business process to which a maintenance task belongs:

The following uses are intended in the standard configuration:

    • Normal tasks
    • Overhaul
    • Shutdown planning
  • Assigning maintenance attributes to budget uses:

This setting serves as the basis for automatically determining the budget use from the attribute values, such as a WBS element or a CO order.

For the planning application provided (planning area 4MCBA004), the assignments of maintenace attributes to budget categories or budget uses are interpreted as soon as they provide a data basis for the budget planning in the assigned multi-area 4MCBA001 by performing the corresponding planning function.

You can adapt the settings to your requirements as you like; the more exact and detailed you make your settings, the more exact the system can assign the data provided for the budget planning to the respective budget category or budget use.

If you cannot make the assignment using the Customizing tables (for example, because you want to use some maintenance attributes that were not intended in the table as the basis), then you make the assignments individually using a BAdI interface (UPA_MCB_BUDGET_CAT or UPA_MCB_BUSI_CAT).

To recapitulate, changing (enhancing) the standard settings is only advisable in certain cases, such as the following:

  • You want to enhance the planning application provided by SAP by, for example,
    • defining customer-specific ("simulation" type) planning versions
    • defining customer-specific budget uses
    • defining customer-specific values for the assigned maintenance attributes when configuring budget categories and budget uses
  • You want to create a customer-specific planning application and still keep the existing Customizing logic or the overlying access logic in the BPS (using exit variables whose value determination is implemented in the function group UPA_MCB_01).

If you want to enhance the standard Customizing, then you should do this in the customer namespace, that is, your enhancements should begin with 9, x, y, or z. If possible, you should not delete the settings in the SAP namespace. If you delete these, we can no longer guarantee the smooth functioning of the planning application provided.

The assignment of the maintenance attributes is, however, not subject to any naming conventions, that is, you can delete the standard settings if necessary.
