Use
In this activity, you define the correspondence residence time for each correspondence type. Once this residence time has been reached in the operational system, the correspondence is archived.
If you want to set the indicator Delete, the system deletes the corresponding data of the correspondence type without archiving it. In doing this, it creates a deletion object from an archiving object.
If you do not make an entry for the correspondence type, you can create a generic entry where you define how long correspondence is to remain in the system before being archived or deleted.
Individual applications have defined their own procedures for archiving correspondence requests. Note the instructions in these applications and use only the procedures defined in the applications to archive.
Requirements
You have executed the following IMG activities:
- Cross-Archiving Object Customizing
- Create Logical File Path
- Archiving Object-Specific Customizing
- Maintain Global Archiving Control
Standard settings
Notes
Make sure that you enter the residence time of the correspondence type whose data you want to archive or delete.
The residence time must be larger than or the same as the minimal residence time that you have defined in the activity Maintain Global Control for Archiving.
If you do not make an entry in this IMG activity, the system checks whether you have created a generic entry. If not, the standard residence time applies. You define this for correspondence in Customizing under Cross-Application Components -> General Application Functions -> Mass Data Archiving -> Maintain Global Control of Archiving.
If you want to check whether Customizing is complete, you can use a check report in Customizing under Cross-Application Components -> General Application Functions -> Mass Data Archiving -> Check Archiving Customizing.
For more information about this archiving object, see the section Archiving Correspondence.
