Use
In this Customizing activity, you can define the specification type for each material category. Specifications that are created or imported use specification types. These specification types must be mapped to the corresponding material categories.
In this activity, you can also make settings to extend your process industry or discrete industry processes with the processes from the other industry.
Standard settings
The standard system is delivered with material categories for the process industry and discrete industry.
Industry Description Material Category
Process Industry BULK
PURE_SUB
RAWMAT (not a standard setting; RAWMAT can be used instead of material category BULK)
Discrete Industry BULK
MATERIAL
PACKAGING
PRODUCT
PURE_SUB
SURFACE
Activities
Determine which material categories are necessary for your organization and then take the following steps:
- Check the standard setting and adapt them, if necessary.
Note: The value in the Specification Type field is an internal specification type and customer-specific. The value in the External Specification Type field is an imported specification from the supplier. The value in the Substance Group field can be customer-specific or imported. - If you currently use discrete industry processes and will also use process industry processes later, modify the optional material category RAWMAT and assign a corresponding internal and external specification type, for example, RAW_SUB and RAW_SUB_E.
- If you want to create supplier specification listings from a specification type other than the specification type assigned to material category BULK, you can enter this material category as the parameter value for the optional environment parameter MATERIAL_CATEGORY. For more information, see Customizing activity Specify Environment Parameters for Back-End Processes.
Enhance Discrete Industry Processes
You use discrete industry processes and want to extend your processes to include process industry processes. Your current Customizing settings are similar to the following example:
Material category Specification Type
BULK BULK
MATERIAL BASMAT
PACKAGING PACKAGING
PRODUCT MAT_PART
PURE_SUB PURE_SUB
SURFACE SURFACE
To introduce processes of the process industry additionally, you have the following possibilities:
- You can use the BULK material category with the BULK specification type to handle real substances.
- You can define the optional material category RAWMAT and assign the specification type REAL_SUB/REAL_SUB_E to handle real substances.
Enhance Process Industry Processes
You use process industry processes and want to extend your processes to include discrete industry processes. Your current Customizing settings are similar to the following example:
Material category Specification Type Note
BULK REAL_SUB
RAWMAT RAW_SUB optional
PURE_SUB PURE_SUB
To introduce processes of the discrete industry additionally, you must add the following material categories:
Material category Specification Type
MATERIAL BASMAT
PACKAGING PACKAGING
PRODUCT MAT_PART
SURFACE SURFACE
You can use material category BULK for processes of the process industry as well as processes of the discrete industry.
Example
You can use the following settings for both process industry and discrete industry processes:
Mat.cat. Spec.type REACH rel. Mat. assigned Examples
BULK REAL_SUB X solder paste, bonding wire
MATERIAL BASMAT plastic of motherboard
PACKAGING PACKAGING X cardboard box
PRODUCT MAT_PART X motherboard, capacitor, diode, IC
PURE_SUB PURE_SUB X lead,tin,silver,silicon
SURFACE SURFACE protective finish
Further notes
If you use the optional material category RAW_MAT, you have to add this category in checks for this material category. For more information about specifying material types to be checked, see the Customizing activity Specify Checks and Single Criteria.
