Use

The MRP area represents an organizational unit which carries out material requirements planning independently. There are basically three types of MRP areas: Plant MRP area, MRP area for Storage Locations and MRP area for Subcontractors. To represent a contract packager (CP), the MRP area for Storage Locations is used because of the requirements of stock visibility in both mySAP ERP and in SAP SCM systems.

A business type is assigned to an MRP area to distinguish between MRP areas used for different business scenarios. For a contract packager, the business type is set to contract packager. If the business type is blank, then the MRP area is a standard MRP area, which is used in standard material requirement planning. The business type can be extended if new business scenarios are involved in the future.

This customizing activity is used only to define MRP areas that represent contract packagers. If you want to define a MRP area that is not involved in a contract packager scenario, go to Define MRP Areas

Requirements

To define MRP areas, you should have already activated material requirements planning for MRP areas Activate MRP for MRP Areas. This step will only be done once in the system.

And furthermore, you have already converted planning file entries for MRP areas, this step will only be done once in the system. Convert Planning File Entries for MRP Areas

Activities

To define a new MRP area for a contract packager, proceed as follows:

  1. Starting from the MRP area overview, choose New entries.
  2. Enter the ID and description of the MRP area. You can choose an alphanumeric ID; however, it must be at least 5 digits long to avoid any overlapping with an ID of an existing plant
  3. The MRP area type and business type have already been set properly to represent a contract packager
  4. Enter the receiving plant, to which the contract packager belongs
  5. Enter the receiving storage location. It is recommended to use the AFS (Available For Sale) storage location as the receiving storage location, choose Save.
  6. Choose Assign storage locations, assign all storage locations , incl. the receiving storage location to the MRP area. In general, this is the AFS + ROD (Received On Dock) storage location.
  7. Choose Save and then Exit or Back.
