Use
In this IMG activity, you specify parameters for Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), the decentralized system in which material stock is managed.
The Warehouse Management system in ERP is activated by assigning the plant/storage location to the warehouse number. By setting this warehouse number to ERP with EWM, you ensure that the system manages the warehouse stock with an EWM system.
If you want to set up a decentralized Warehouse Management system, refer to the IMG activity Activate Decentralized WMS.
The warehouse number identifies a physical warehouse structure within the Warehouse Management system (for example, EWM).
In addition, you can define the kind of communication with the EWM system and activate the distribution of unchecked deliveries to the warehouse.
Note: Do not make these additional settings if you are using an SAP system as the Warehouse Management system.
Requirements
To use an Extended Warehouse Management system, you must have activated Service Parts Management.

Activities
Example
You want to manage the storage bin stocks in your company in an Extended Warehouse Management system. Inventory management takes place in a central ERP system. Warehouse number 002 is managed in an SAP Warehouse Management system (WMS), and warehouse number 003 is managed in an Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) with an SAP SCM system.
Central ERP system
1. Create the warehouse numbers 002 and 003.
Note: You should not copy warehouse number 001 in full to warehouse number 002. In this scenario, only warehouse number definition is required in the ERP system.
2. For warehouse number 002, leave these settings in initial status.
3. For warehouse number 003, set the external WM to ERP with EWM , the communication WM to Queued and Serialized Asynchronous RFC and activate the distribution of unchecked deliveries.
Further notes
You have to activate "Delivery Split by Warehouse Number" in order to enable the distribution of deliveries to EWM.
If you use EWM warehouses together with centralized warehouses in your ERP system you have to ensure that no deliveries are created containing centrally- and EWM-managed items in the same document. Such deliveries are not distributed to EWM, in general, and they cannot be completed in ERP neither. Thus, take care that warehouse numbers are assigned to all items which are relevant for putaway or picking. Use Lean WM for centrally-managed deliveries which do not require full WM functionality.
You find the corresponding settings in menus "Logistics Execution -> Shipping -> Deliveries -> Define Split Criteria for Deliveries" and "Logistics Execution -> Shipping -> Picking -> Lean WM".
