Use

In this IMG activity, you assign a delivery type - and, in special cases, also a movement type - to a plant/storage location combination and a process. The system then uses the delivery type and the movement type in the execution of the process.

Plants and Storage Locations

You can create a generic entry without a plant or storage location to determine the delivery type and movement type if you want to use the same settings for all plants or storage locations in your system.

In determining the delivery type, the system checks the entries that you make in this IMG activity for the process that is to be executed and proceeds as follows:

  • If there is an entry for plant and storage location, the system adopts the delivery type you specified in this entry.
  • If there is no entry for plant/storage location, the system checks whether there is a plant-specific entry for the process and adopts this delivery type.
  • If there is no plant-specific entry, the system checks whether there is a generic entry that is applicable to all plants and storage locations and adopts the delivery type that you have defined for the process.

If you use EWM-managed storage locations in several plants, you should create one entry per plant for the processes in each case.

In some cases, however, it is necessary to create an entry for each storage location. This is particularly important if the issuing (EWM-managed) storage location is to be used as the source for the one-step and two-step stock transfer:

Example

In plant 1, there is the storage location EWM1. This storage location is EWM-managed and is the source of supply for production. In production, there is the storage location PR1. This is assigned to the production supply area and specified in the control cycle as the receiving (destination) storage location. You want to use the Kanban process with one-step stock transfer.

You must create the following entry :

Plant: 0001

Storage location: EWM1

Process: Kanban 1-step stock transfer

Delivery type: DOG

Movement type: 411

Plant 2 is a production plant. The components needed for production are taken from plant 1 out of storage location EWM1. The components must be transported by truck from plant 1 to plant 2. You use Kanban in production. The production storage location PR2 is the storage location that you have assigned to the production supply area and defined as the receiving (destination) storage location.

You must create the following two entries:

Plant: 0001

Storage location: EWM1

Process: Kanban 2-step stock transfer, goods issue to stock in transfer

Delivery type: DOG

Movement type: 313

Plant: 0002

Storage location: PR2

Process: Kanban 2-step stock transfer, goods receipt from stock in transfer

Delivery type: DIG

Movement type: 315

Delivery Types

In the integration between PP and EWM, the delivery is used as the document that transfers the information from ERP to EWM. The deliveries are created in the ERP system and distributed to the EWM system. In the EWM system, the goods issue is posted following any necessary picking. This goods issue posting is then sent back to the ERP system.

You can assign the following delivery types to a process:

  • Outbound delivery types
    • DOG: Outbound delivery goods movement
    • HOD: Outbound delivery goods issue movement
  • Inbound delivery types
    • DIG: Inbound delivery goods movement
    • HID: Inbound delivery handling unit movement

These inbound delivery types can only be selected for the production supply process.

Combinations of Processes and Delivery Types

SAP recommends the following combinations of processes and delivery types:

Material Staging Processes:

Pick parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods receipt from stock in transfer        HID or DIG (inbound delivery)

Pick parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods issue to stock in transfer        HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Pick parts with 1-step stock transfer        HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Release parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods receipt from stock in transfer        HID or DIG (inbound delivery)

Release parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods issue to stock in transfer        HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Release parts with 1-step stock transfer        HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Requirements

Standard settings

SAP supplies standard settings for the following processes:

Process    Delivery Type        Movement Type

GI of Staged Parts    DOG

GI from Kanban for Cost Center    DOG

Kanban 1-Step Stock Transfer    DOG            411

Pick Parts 1-Step Stock Transfer    DOG            411

Release Order Part 1-Step St. Trans.     DOG            411

Repetitive Manufacturing GR from Confirmation    DIG

Repetitive Manufacturing GI from Conf. Cancellation    DOG

For 1-step stock transfers movement type 411 is used. For the other standard processes no movement type is delivered because the system determines the movement type automatically.
