Use

In this IMG activity, you define the item categories which must be used for the items of a direct outbound delivery. By means of the item category you can, for example, control which movement type is used for the related inventory posting. You can maintain the item categories for outbound deliveries directed to external customers and for stock transfer deliveries separately.

The item category determination is also used for additional packaging items which are added to replenishment deliveries or to outbound deliveries to customers.

Usually, the ERP item category is determined based on the delivery type, the item category group from the material, and the item usage (see standard item category determination). The current IMG activity provides the possibility to overrule the standard item category determination and to determine the item category dependent on the business processes for which direct outbound deliveries are used.

Carrying out the current activity is optional. If you do not make any entries here, the standard item category determination is used.

Requirements

Before you can assign item categories to direct outbound deliveries, you must at first define suitable item categories.

It is not mandatory to allow the newly defined delivery item categories as alternative item categories within the standard item category determination. However, you can only use outbound delivery-related item categories together with direct outbound deliveries.

Activities

You can define item categories based on the following parameters:

  • EWM Delivery Type
This is the delivery type used for the direct outbound delivery in SAP EWM. Since the ERP system has no knowledge about valid values, no search help is available for this parameter. If you want to define the ERP delivery type independently from the EWM delivery type, enter * as a placeholder.
  • ERP Item Type
The ERP item type classifies the character of the delivery item. The following item types are supported for direct outbound deliveries:
    • Standard Item
    • Value Item
The material of this item is not relevant for inventory management but describes a service product.
    • Text Item
This item is used for documentation only and contains no material information.
    • Packaging Item (External)
This item is used if the packaging materials are relevant for inventory management and are to be posted goods issue together with the other items of the outbound delivery.
  • EWM Item Type
The EWM item type controls the processing of the delivery in SAP EWM at item level and semantically corresponds to the ERP item category. Since the ERP system has no knowledge about valid values, no search help is available for this parameter. If you want to define the ERP item category independently from the EWM item type, enter * as a placeholder.
  • Code for the Initiator of a Communication Chain
This code describes the business process in which direct outbound deliveries are submitted from SAP EWM to the ERP system. If you want to define the delivery type independently from this code, choose the * value as a placeholder. Relevant business processes for direct outbound deliveries are:
    • Kit-to-stock
Direct outbound deliveries are used for posting goods issue for the kit components.
    • Reverse Kitting
In this process the disassembled kit headers are posted goods issue by means of direct outbound deliveries.
    • Cash Sales
Goods are sold directly to customers within the warehouse. The related direct outbound delivery might be relevant for billing.
    • Direct Shipment
Goods are shipped to customers or other warehouses without prior planning.
  • Warehouse number
You can define the delivery type settings for a specific warehouse number only. If you want to define the delivery type for all warehouses, use * as a placeholder.

If you make multiple entries with placeholders (*), the system first looks for the most specific matching entry, i.e. with the smallest number of placeholders. If you have defined several entries with the same number of placeholders the system uses the matching entry with the most specific data fields on the left.

Note: If you add items to an existing outbound delivery in EWM the system does not use the parameters "Code for the Initiator of a Communication Chain" and "EWM Delivery Type" for the item category determination; the item category determination is called with value SPACE for these parameters.

Example

Example 1:

You want to use item category DLN for all standard items of direct outbound deliveries having OUTB as delivery type in SAP EWM; DLX must be used for all text items with the same attributes. Make the following entries:

EWM DelTy    ERP ItemTy    EWM ItTy    Cd. for Init.    Wareh. No.    ERP Item Cat.

OUTB    SPACE    *    *    *    DLN

OUTB    Text Item    *    *    *    DLX

Example 2:

You want to use item category DLN for all standard items of direct outbound deliveries having OUTB as delivery type in SAP EWM, except for warehouse 100. For this warehouse, item category ZDLN is to be used. In this case, the table looks as follows:

EWM DelTy    ERP ItemTy    EWM ItTy    Cd. for Init.    Wareh. No.    ERP Item Cat.

OUTB    SPACE    *    *    *    DLN

OUTB    SPACE    *    *    100    DLN

Example 3:

You have defined an item category ZSCR, which you want to use scrapping items. You have assigned it to movement type 551 (withdrawal for scrapping). In this case, the corresponding initiator code has to be used for the item category determination:

EWM DelTy    ERP ItemTy    EWM ItTy    Cd. for Init.    Wareh. No.    ERP Item Cat.

*    SPACE    *    Scrapping    *    ZSCR
