Use
In this menu option you define the source plant which physically represents the supplying warehouse if the transportation cross-docking (TCD) process starts at a contract packager warehouse.
This setting is required because the plant to which the contract packager is assigned, normally does not model his geographical location.
Requirements
Before you can make the assignment, you have to define a plant representing the location of the contract packager's warehouse.
- You define plants as organizational units under Logistics General in menu option Define Plants.
Standard settings
Activities
If the transportation cross-docking process starts at a contract packager warehouse you have to make the following entry:
- Supplying Plant is the receiving plant to which the contract packager is assigned and which is now the supplying plant of the TCD process;
- Supplying Storage location is the storage location to which the inventory of the CP is assigned. This storage location corresponds to the storage location in the outbound delivery which is shipped from the CP's warehouse;
- Source Plant is the plant representing the physical location of the CP warehouse.
Example
Assume that the contract packager CPA is located in Forth Worth near to Dallas and that he is modeled by the storage location CPA assigned to plant A. Furthermore, assume that plant A is representing the warehouse in Dallas.
Due to the distance between Forth Worth and Dallas, plant A does not represent the contract packager CPA geographically. In this case you make the following customizing settings.
- Define the plant F modeling the contract packager's warehouse in Forth Worth. This plant has no inventory functions.
- Maintain the relationship between supplying storage location and source plant by using the current activity
