Use
In this Customizing activity, you define object types that you want to use in the Web user interface (Web UI), and make settings for these object types.
Object IDs
Each object of an object type has an object ID. This ID uniquely identifies the object. The object ID can exist in the following forms:
- DDIC-structure format
The DDIC-structure format of the object ID contains the key fields of a particular object type. This structure can only contain character-based data types. When the system creates other formats of the object ID, it uses the DDIC-structure as a basis for the ID.
- Internal format
The system uses the internal format to write an object ID in database tables (for example, table for favorites, last accessed, recently changed, and tranfer to list). The internal ID can be used for all object types. The internal ID is a character string that contains " # " characters as a separator between each part that corresponds to the key fields of the object.
- External format
The system displays object IDs on the Web UI using the external format. The external ID is a character string that contains " / " characters as a separator between each part that corresponds to the key fields of the object.
In this activity, you must specify the DDIC structure (which contains only key fields) that the system uses for the object ID.
Conversion of IDs
The system uses standard logic to convert the DDIC-structure object ID to internal format and vice versa, and to convert the DDIC-structure object ID to external format. If the standard logic is not sufficient for your chosen object type, you can additionally specify classes for an object type, which the system uses when converting the object ID.
If you are working in a two-system scenario, you can specify whether the conversion of external object IDs is done in the system outside of the demilitarized zone or in the back-end system.
Icons
You can specify an icon for use with individual object types.
