Use

In this Customizing activity, you define the time allocation types and determine the parameters required to calculate the availability of a resource.

The availability of a resource is calculated using the sum of all time allocations (for example, Monday to Thursday from 8:00 to 18:00 and Friday from 8:00 to 14:00). This availability information is displayed as a time stream using a previously defined strategy.

There are two different availabilities:

  • Basic availability can be assigned to the standard working time of a resource.

Basic availability is used in BW or as background information for a planning table.

  • Overall availability includes exceptions to normal working times, such as a single absence due to vacation or illness.

Overall availability is used for planning demands.

You can create various time allocation types, such as WORK for working time, ILL for illness, and so on. You can assign the following attributes to each time allocation type:

  • Availability
  • Standard priority
  • An exception indicator that you use to specify that this time allocation type is not to be used for calculating the basic availability (normal working times)

Note on Using Dynamic Breaks:
If you want to use dynamic breaks, in addition to activating this function in Customizing activity Define Planning Board Profile, you must create a time allocation type DYN_BREAK before running the availability transfer report (/MRSS/HCM_RPTWFMIF) for the first time. This is required in order to ensure that the dynamic breaks created in SAP HCM are transferred correctly to SAP Multiresource Scheduling.

Requirements

Standard settings

Activities

  1. Define the time allocation types required for your resources.
  2. For each time allocation type, enter the availability of the resource as follows:
    • 1 - Available
    • 0 - Not Available
  3. For each time allocation type, define a standard priority.

    Note:
If you have defined multiple exceptional time allocation types (such as T1 and T2), you use the standard priority to specify which exceptional time allocation type should have priority (T2 or T1, for example). The priorities of the non-exceptional time allocation types are not taken into account because the exceptional time allocation types always have priority over the basic availability.

  4. Specify whether this time allocation type is an exceptional time allocation type by selecting the checkbox.
  5. For each time allocation type, enter an easily identifiable short and long text.
  6. Save your entries.

Example

You define a time allocation type "ILL" for the absence type illness. Since a resource is not available when ill, you assign the availability 0. For its standard priorities, you have defined a value range from -64 to 64, where -64 is the lowest priority and 64 the highest. Since employees are never available when they are ill, you assign the time allocation type the priority 64. Since the ILL time allocation type is not to contribute to the basic availability, that is, the "normal" working times, you mark it as an exceptional time allocation type.
