Use

Characteristics are used in Compatible Unit Management for a number of purposes:

  • To select compatible units in the design document
  • To select action-relevant operations from a task list
  • To determine the settlement rule

In the Classification IMG activities, you define the characteristics you require for the global class and the influencing class. In addition, you define the global class for the compatible unit and compatible unit instance and the influencing class.

  • Compatible Unit Global Class (class type CUM)

You classify compatible unit master data using the values defined for the characteristics of the compatible unit global class. You can enter multiple allowed values for compatible unit characteristics. These values are used as the primary method of selection in the design document and for selection of action-relevant operations from a task list. Operation selection is executed using a standard enhancement.

  • Compatible Unit Instance Global Class (class type CUI)

The compatible unit instance (the actual usage of a compatible unit) is used in the design and in the work order. You classify a compatible unit instance using the values selected for the characteristics of the compatible unit instance global class. You can define only a single value for each of these characteristics.

  • Influencing Class (class type CUI)

The influencing class contains a set of characteristics used to determine a labor complexity factor for the execution of a compatible unit. You can assign values from the influencing class to any compatible unit instance.

The values defined for the influencing class are passed to a Business Add-In for user-defined determination of the resultant complexity factor ( BAdI: Calculation of Complexity Factor). You use the complexity factor to adjust the labor-only content of the selected operations used in the execution of the compatible unit. The influencing class characteristics are stored per compatible unit instance within the plant maintenance or customer service order. If required, you can use the influencing characteristics in the selection of task list operations for the compatible unit execution.

Requirements

  • The characteristics for the compatible unit and compatible unit instance global classes are identical.
  • The characteristics for the global class have data type character format (CHAR) and are configured to validate against a standard database table where the name of the key field is identical to the name of the characteristic. This is required for interface structure generation.
  • You have defined a characteristic representing the "action" for which the compatible unit is used. This is validated against table /CUM/ACTION.

Standard settings

Activities

  1. If required, create customer-defined database check tables to be used for validating characteristics of the global class.
  2. Create the global class characteristics and validate the characteristics against the relevant database check table. You can use either a standard or a customer-defined table. Perform this function while creating the characteristic in transaction CT04. Select data type Character format (CHAR) and set the number of characters to the length of the key field in the validation table. Choose Other Value Check on the Values tab and select Check Table. Enter the table name in the Check table field.
  3. Using transaction CL02:
    1. Define the global class for the compatible unit master data (class type CUM).
    2. Define the global class for the compatible unit instance (class type CUI).
    3. Define the influencing class (class type CUI).
